First post

So... I'm starting this blog for a few reasons. Reason number one is to give back to the art teacher community a bit. I have gained an enormous amount of knowledge from other blogs. I really don't know what I would have done without the amazing online community of art educators and I feel like now it's time for me to be more than a passive idea moocher. The second reason I'm doing this is so that I have a record of what I do. I kept a journal during my first year of teaching and it's startling to look back and realize how much I've forgotten about already. This way I'll have all of my thoughts and ideas in one place.

I'm just finishing up my 5th year teaching elementary art. I can't believe it's already been five years! Where does the time go?! And after all these years I finally feel like I'm really getting the hang of it. This whole endeavor is all about learning, growing, adapting, and changing. I learn so much every day. I learn what to do, what not to do, and how to tweak things to make them better. Teaching art to young humans is an amazing, rewarding, hilarious, frustrating, energizing, overwhelming experience and I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world. I love what I do and feel so fortunate because not a lot of people can say that.

I know it's kind of weird that I'm starting this at the end of the year, but I figured I could work out some of the tech kinks over the summer and be up and running for next school year. I hope you've all had a rewarding school year and have a restful summer.
